Where, where to, where from.

Wo? takes the dative.

Wohin? takes the accusative.

Some prepositions do both.

The question tells you which case.

Nine prepositions can take either case: in, an, auf, über, unter, vor, hinter, neben, zwischen. If something is in a place (Wo?), use the dative. If something moves to a place (Wohin?), use the accusative.

stellen is a movement: you put something somewhere.

auf den Tisch.

Where to? So auf + accusative: den Tisch.

For going places, use nach or zu.

nach goes with cities, most countries and Hause: nach Berlin, nach Ägypten, nach Hause. zu goes with people and places: zum Arzt, zur Post, zu meiner Oma. in goes with buildings you enter and countries with an article: ins Kino, in die Schweiz.

Pairs of verbs: stellen → stehen, legen → liegen, hängen → hängen, setzen → sitzen. The first of each pair is movement (accusative), the second is position (dative).

Wir wohnen in der Nähe vom Park.We live near the park.نسكن قرب المنتزه.

Ich komme gerade vom Arzt.I've just come from the doctor's.جئت للتو من عند الطبيب.
